Just like in everyday life, first impressions are crucial on the Internet. Web surfers click through our websites with their ADHD mentalities that leave no room for visual error. One wrong layout or color or image can quickly disintegrate your new visitors perception of your site.

Think about it! As we search Google for the answers on our minds, we quickly peruse site after site. With only a few seconds to make that very important first impression, we are greatly influenced by the appearance of the website in question. I’ve often found myself click through to the next site on Google’s list of possibilities, for no other reason but the fact that the visuals seemed unprofessional or just plain ugly. You can argue all you want about how this is wrong to do and how the words should be what matters, but tell that to the millions of other web surfers who do the exact same thing.

Using the home page to build trust.

We should see the home page of our websites as our best trust building tool. Being the first impression to mark the visitors mind, this page has the opportunity to provide satisfying colors and an appealing layout of links, pictures and framed verbal content. Once you gain the new visitor’s trust, you can afford a bit more flexibility as they continue to peruse the pages of your website. Fail to pass this first impression test and you will most likely fail to see that web surfer ever again.

Clean is ALWAYS better than super slick.

As much as we like the soft corners of a gradient, glassed icon, covering the pages of a web site, we should always lean in the direction of clean and easy to understand. People like pretty, but a purposeful layout will always win the day. Some of the most successful websites have the absolute simplest designs possible. It would seem that their mentality is build on the premise that point A and point B should be connected with the shortest, most direct road possible.

Making a good first impression just got easier.

These days you just don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to get that very important positive first impression. With professional designs and customization that brand your site to its necessary needs, you can get the look and feel that your visitors will love and much, much more.

There’s no doubt that Wordpress is the most popular self hosted blogging platform available today. We see it all over the place, from the smallest to the largest bloggers to even many heavy hitting (non blogging) websites. So why is this? What has put Wordpress so high on the pedestal of blogging platforms that it’s presence dominates the Internet?

Smart Design

Matthew Mullenweg, the founder of Wordpress, helped design a blogging platform that just seemed do everything well as well as easily so. Maneuvering the Dashboard of Wordpress, adding new content, adjusting code, changing settings, etc… are all performed with ease. Everything seems to make logical sense and never do you find yourself trapped in a maze of confusing buttons or directions. It just all seems to make sense. I find the back-end of Wordpress to be the perfect balance of feature filled options and simplistic design; something I can’t quite say for some of the other offerings out there.

I have no doubt that this ease of use has brought so many initial users running to this great blogging platform, but if it weren’t coupled with excellent mechanics, they’d be running in the opposite direction when the truth was revealed. I guess you could say that the proof is in the pudding.

Awesome Flexibility!

I just love the ease at which the Wordpress blogging platform allows you to move your entire blog to and from different Wordpress installations. Coming from Blogger, no proplem! In the Dashboard of Wordpress you can easily export your entire blog database or import many different platforms. And once again, it’s all laid out in such a way that JUST MAKES SENSE.

Amazing Support!

With huge popularity comes unmatched support. From forums and blogs just giving away great, free assistance, to developers handing out intuitive and wonderfully useful plugins, left and right. If you’re a user of the Wordpress Blogging Platform you get to enjoy the privilege of always having your items in stock and never having to wait for your favorite accessory to come in (if you’re into retail store analogies? )

Why I Prefer Wordpress

Certainly for all the reasons just explained, but for me it’s just the simple fact that it makes the most sense. We all have limited time to get things done and I can’t afford to waste any of that precious time searching Google to figure out how to do every other new task I come across. I’ve worked with too many crude website/blogging platform programs that never quite seemed to leave the logic in the design. With Wordpress I rarely ever find myself thinking, “That’s an odd way of doing such and such?” Similar to Mac OSX, Wordpress does just what you need and in the simplest, most efficient way possible!

There’s no doubt that times are financially tough and they will probably not get much better anytime soon. But this doesn’t mean that your business needs to go down with the ship. Absolutely NOT! A recession is like a hurricane tearing through a city. While many of the weaker buildings fall down like a house of cards, those with a strong foundation will stand the test of the pounding winds. Our businesses can be the ones to stand with a strong foundation, but only if we’re willing to think smarter, not harder. Make mindful adjustments and stand strong!

The Web Is Where It’s At!

No matter what the financial forecast, the Internet is the ever growing new frontier for business. If you have yet to place yourself and your business among the ranks of those online, you’re behind the times and will need to either shape up or ship out! Or, if you DO have a website for your business, but it is statically sitting there, collecting dust, you’re not much better off. Even more so, if you have a beautiful, expensive website that is not search engine optimized, you are just presenting the World with a very expensive online business card. And yet you are most likely not even presenting it to the World because the World doesn’t even know you exist! It can’t find you because you haven’t setup your website to be search engine optimized.

Get Noticed Online And Get Busy!

The yellow pages may not yet be dead, but they are certainly on their last breath. Google is the new business directory so you’d better be sure that your potential clients will find you in a search. And when they do, you better be sure that the pages they are perusing are attractive, professional and intuitive. Our goal is traffic, combined with a sticky website that draws the new client in and makes them your own. Most businesses just DON’T GET IT!!!

You No Longer Have to Break The Bank!

Gone are the days when you have to drop thousands of dollars to build a strong and effective online presence. Affordability, attractive and intuitive designs followed by an out-of-the box search engine optimized layout, make for a killer combination for the smart business looking to give itself a boost during this recession. Not only stay in business, but grow while others are sinking. It’s not about competing anymore, it’s about surviving and then thriving.

Frugal Site Design provides all of this and then some! If you are a business in need of a website or you already HAVE a website, but need a major overhaul, you’ve come to the right place. Check out what I have to offer and how Frugal Site Design can help give you a boost during this recession. These are tough times, but not being flexible and making the changes necessary to survive will make your life even tougher.

Contact me today and get a free website consult! I’m here to help YOUR business, so help yourself to my services and begin to build the online presence your business NEEDS!
